Maternity Style ~ Rachael Weaver

I recently got to style the beautiful Rachael Weaver of Denver’s Rachel Grace Photography for a fun and surprising (snow!) session with Meghan Valentine.  Rachael has so much natural beauty and is a no fuss kind of gal, so I loved doing her hair and makeup with a neutral smoky eye and curled soft waves into her hair before putting it up into a top knot.  She looked so gorgeous it took my breath away!    Baby Weaver is due any day now and I can’t wait to find out what they’re having!  My guess is a girl and I hope she’s born on my birthday – February 13th.

For Rachael’s first look, I restyled her baby shower outfit, adding a more ornate belt from her closet and matching boots.  The second look is a wonderful tube dress by Heidi Klum from A Pea in the Pod Maternity.  The wrap is from H&M and earrings from Claire’s.  You can’t see her boots very well, but they are amazing Frye knock offs from Target.  I have the real harness boots from Frye and they look exactly the same for only $59.99!  I brought along a sweet elephant from India to place on Rachael’s bump since the Weavers have decorated their baby’s nursery with items inspired by elephants – the belly photo is going to look so cute in the baby’s room!  The last look is a bright tee from A Pea in the Pod paired with Rachael’s own jeans and a sweater borrowed from my closet from the Missoni for Target collection last Spring.

Here she is… The woman all other pregnant women are jealous of…

And here comes the surprise SNOW.  It was actually so wonderful because Rachael had pictured her maternity shoot surrounded by white and a light snow fall.  This has been one of the driest winters I’ve seen in 35 years so we never thought it could happen.  But it did. :)

Rachael, you’re going to such an incredible mom.  Good luck and I can’t wait to hear the happy news!

Baby Mama

A few days ago I had the opportunity to do hair, makeup, styling, AND photograph the beautiful Genae Lako of Lafayette, CO.  At 32 weeks, she was feeling like it was the perfect time to capture her pregnancy with her baby girl and I couldn’t agree more!  I am rarely behind the lens, am definitely not a pro, but I loved taking these pictures.

Thanks Genae for letting me in on the fun and getting to make these gorgeous images of you!

Maternity Styling Session with Liz Lewis

Liz Lewis is entering into her third pregnancy with lots of experience and high hopes of not losing her style while mothering two young boys.  Liz hired me to do a wardrobe consult and a personal shopping trip and we could not have gotten more done, or gotten more for her money!

Starting with Liz’s closet, we started with items that she wasn’t sure she should keep or didn’t know how to style.  We also went through bags and bins of maternity hand me downs to figure out what would work for her body and current wardrobe, putting together looks for future reference.  This time around, she knows that she wants to make the most of even her non-maternity pieces and with some thoughtful layering, it’s totally possible!  Every piece was either put in a giveaway pile or styled and hung up neatly by category in her closet.  Here are some of the looks I put together for her…  I think she looks better than the celeb moms I’ve included here for comparison!

Using a fun flannel and tying it above her growing belly will give Liz added style over her cute knit maternity dress.  Cut cardigans make a look more sophisticated and interesting and always allow for a bigger bump!

Now, onto the SHOPPING portion of our evening!  After going over her wardrobe, our most wanted list was:  a new bra, jeggings and leggings, maternity jeans, black cardigan, beige cardigan, cute dresses, and more tailored pieces with feminine details.  (Liz earned herself the nickname Neutral Knits after I looked through her closet – ha!)

We started at Nordstrom Rack to look for a bra but found so much more!  One bra, two cardigans (one military, chunky knit in black, one beautiful beige), 3 feminine tops (satin, lace, flowy, yay!), and a military jacket later, we headed to the mall.  At the Gap, Liz found some great maternity jeans and will likely purchase them later with a 40% off coupon (this girl knows how to shop wisely!).  At Forever 21 we found a lovely peachy beige dress, another thin knit black cardigan with a great flowing hem that looks like a dress from the back, cute black flats, two adorable t-shirts, tanks for layering, leggings, and more feminine tops.  Altogether, Liz bought 20 pieces for under $250.00!!!  That’s an average of $12.50 per piece and she has so much to work with and so many outfit possibilities.  I also recommended she buy a pair of Jeggings from the Level 99 deal that happened to be going on during our appointment at HauteLook (get the app – it’s free!!!).  Only $20.00 and they have the required faux pockets, front AND back, she is going to look great in them!

This is one woman who is going to look amazing every single day of her pregnancy!  Thanks for working with me Liz!
